Education in Thailand

Education in Thailand is provided mainly by the Thai government through the Ministry of Education from pre-school to senior high school. A free basic education of twelve years is provided by the government which consisted of 6 years of elementary education and 6 years of secondary education. Kindergarten levels of pre-elementary education and non-formal education are also supported by the government, independent schools and private organisations.

Teaching profession is highly respected in Thailand. Thai students are generally very polite, enthusiastic and curious about the western culture, especially in the provinces where foreigners are not as many as in the big cities like Bangkok, Chiangmai and Phuket. The importance for English proficiency and a high level of English standard is now recognized due to globalization and the need to compete and work in a global environment. As a result, English teachers are in demand in Thailand to enhance the English proficiency standard and education whilst preparing for entry into the ASEAN Economic Community 2015.
